Description
Description | "The issue of recognition in mobility programs is significant, with over 20% of mobile students having to retake exams or complete additional studies upon their return to their home university. This creates burden for students, increases workload for academics, and may deter students from pursuing mobility opportunities. Efforts to address this issue have intensified since the 2018 EU Council Recommendation on automatic mutual recognition of qualifications and learning periods abroad. The Erasmus+ Learning Agreements now include an ""automatic recognition"" checkbox, signalling its importance. However, uneven implementation of the Council Recommendation persists among member states. The European Commission's assessment highlights the need for improvement, especially with the upcoming Council Recommendation on Quality Assurance and Recognition in March 2024. The AUREA project aims to support automatic recognition for credit mobility students by identifying barriers, analysing existing options, and providing policy recommendations for the future of automatic recognition. By assessing the state of play in recognition for mobile students undergoing credit mobility, creating a shared understanding of (full) automatic credit recognition on a European level, providing higher education institutions with the necessary tools and information to assess their readiness for implementation of automatic credit recognition and fostering evidence-based policy making, AUREA seeks to address challenges and promote unobstructed mobility within the Erasmus+ community, thereby advancing the goal of automatic recognition.
