Automatizing AMM statistics compilation process

The Statistics team of Finnish Immigration Service is applying for funding for a project of Automatizing AMM statistics compilation process. During the project, old process of extracting Excel spreadsheets from database for a person to delve in is replaced with PowerBI software and its direct access to the database. In addition, our proposal includes a role for data governance. A person working on this role creates and maintains an archive that ensures that the concepts and definitions of Finnish Immigration Service’s statistics are in line with guidelines. The result and impact of this project will be increased level of automation, data processing and delivery speed, transparency, data validation and screening, data accuracy and versatility, and the control of data and future demands for it. The project decreases the human labour required, the number of human error and bias affecting data, the cost of compiling and delivering data, and the level of expertise required for compiling data. In addition, the new automated way of compiling statistics distributes the expertise required to complete such a task, and requires little monitoring and updating after implementation, and is therefor expected to last long and be cost-effective. The project will benefit Finnish Immigration Service and Eurostat, as well as our relevant stakeholders, including Ministry of the Interior, Police, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, Statistics Finland, Media/Journalists, Other ministries, EU, Frontex, OECD and the UN. The project can serve as an example for other EU countries wanting to automatize their AMM statistics compilation process. In addition, the project is relevant considering the European Statistics Code of Practice (CoP).
