Description | In August 2011, the Mexican company Impulsora del Desarrollo y el Empleo en América Latina (IDEAL) won in a competitive bidding the right to build and operate the 168.6 km of highways connecting the municipalities of Guadalajara and Tepic located in Mexico (states of Jalisco and Nayarit). The bidding criteria was the highest price paid for the right to develop the project. Besides IDEAL, four other companies made public offers for the project: the Mexican companies ICA, ALDESEM, OHL, and COCONAL. IDEAL´s offer was US$ 336.8 million (Pesos 4300 million). The sponsor created the company Autopistas de Guadalajara-Tepic S.A. de C.V. to lead the project. The 30-year concession contract was signed in November 2011. The investment was estimated at US$ 642 million (Pesos 8200 million) over the life of the project. In February 2012, Autopistas de Guadalajara-Tepic signed a US$ 157 million construction contract with the Mexican company ICA. As of February 2014, 45% of the construction works were completed, and the toll road was expected to be operational by mid-2014. |
