Description

Description

The project was awarded in April 1997 and included the rehabilitation of the existing road and the construction of new segments, including a 1.5-km tunnel. Financial closure was in June 1998. The project company ownership is divided as follows: Odinsa holds 30% of the shares; Megaproyectos holds 20%; the remaining 50% is held by 10 other companies (each holds 5% of the shares). The project has been partially financed by Fiducoldex. The expansion works have been delayed due to financial problems and the community resistance to tolling (requests to remove tollgates installed in certain areas have led to the renegotiation of the contract). As of April 1999, Colombia's general controller requested the cancelling of the project, claiming it lacks technical, legal and economic viability. In Jun. 2000, the consortium obtained the government approval for the expansion works, which should be completed by 2004. http://www.inco.gov.co/concesiones/filtros/fechasimportantes/frm_fechas_importantes.asp?concesion=303
