The Avian Influenza Preparedness Project seeks to minimize the threat in Armenia posed to humans, by the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), and other zoonoses in domestic poultry, and, to prepare for the control and response to an influenza pandemic, and other infectious disease emergencies in humans. The first component - animal health - will support activities on prevention, control, and eradication of the HPAI; the second component - human health - will focus on activities to reduce the impact of HPAI, building an effective national public health response strategy, within an enabling environment, to include the necessary resources, responsive to nationwide scale, through proven interventions. The public awareness and implementation support component, will support and provide information and communication activities, to increase awareness, and commitment by the government, private sector, and civil society organizations, in order to strengthen the understanding among the general population about the risk and impact of a potential pandemic. Finally, the fourth component - support to critical imports - would finance, under Emergency Recovery Assistance (ERA) procedures, a positive list of critically needed imports, identified as necessary to a response program in the event an AI human pandemic would occur.
