Azalea Solar and Storage Project

US independent power producer Idemitsu Renewables' 60-MWac solar farm co-located with a 38-MWac/152-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in California has reached commercial operation. The facility supplies electricity to the California grid under a long-term power purchase agreement with Sonoma Clean Power Authority, powering about 20,000 homes annually across Sonoma and Mendocino counties. The project combines high-efficiency photovoltaic panels with lithium-ion battery storage, enabling excess daytime solar power to be stored and dispatched during evening hours. Construction financing was provided by a consortium including Mizuho Bank Ltd, Commerzbank AG, and U.S. Bank N.A., with U.S. Bank also acting as tax equity investor. Engineering, procurement, and construction services were carried out by SOLV Energy.
