Description
Description | The B-52J Commercial Engine Replacement Program aims to replace the bomber's original 1960s-era TF33 engines with more fuel-efficient F130 engines made by Rolls-Royce. This modernization effort will keep the B-52 bomber operational through 2050 and beyond. The program recently passed its Critical Design Review, allowing major modifications of two B-52 aircraft to move forward. Boeing is the prime contractor for integration, and the first two B-52H aircraft will be modified into the B-52J configuration at Boeing's facility in San Antonio, Texas. Testing of the modified aircraft will take place at Edwards Air Force Base, California, before modifying the remainder of the fleet. |
