Further decline of bees poses threat to our biodiversity, food supply and our economy due to their importance to pollination of food crops. A lot of research is currently being done though little specific to our region. The University of Oldenburg and VHL Leeuwarden will collaborate with het Nederlands Centrum Bijenonderzoek, Ökowerk Emden and IMME Bourtanger Moor for the first time in a unique Citizen Science project. In the EDR, children young people, teachers & their own bumble bee populations will be committed to collect data and create awareness. This data will be uploaded with the Inspektor B app by the ‘young scientists’ and will be available for research and comparison. Likewise, the sounds of these populations will be recorded. Students of M.A. voor Popcultuur (Leeuwarden), Institut für Musik (Oldenburg) will collaborate with the kids, composing a Bumblebee Rhapsody which will be performed simultaneously on 21 June 2018 in Buitenpost, Oldenburg and Emden, connected on internet and worldwide visible by livestream. Local communities as well as the LF2018 audience will attend the concerts. Buitenpost, Oldenburg en Emden will get a box office hit: The Oratorio, a sculpture in which visitors are immersed in music generated by bees. Via the web application, the Oratorio's are connected. All visitor centers are equipped with a Fenster zum Nachbarn touchscreen with mic. and camera that allows visitors to come into contact with each other. This allows the partners to be permanently connected and communicate with each other. B-RAP creates permanent cross-border cooperation in EDR between research institutes, bachelor programs and visitor centers. Through the web applications and public activities, B-RAP is particularly visible. Not only for the participating hundreds of children and young people, but also for the tens of thousands of visitors of the partners and the audience of LF 2018.
