Ba Thuoc 1 & 2 Hydropower Plant

Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group (HAG) was planning the development of the 80 MW Ba Thuoc 2 hydropower plant, Thanh Hoa province, as well as the 60 MW Ba Thuoc 1 hydropower plant. Commissioning was expected in late-2011; the second turbine of Ba Thuoc 2 became operational in February 2012. Construction started in September 2009. The two projects together were expected to generate up to 700 million kWh annually. No further information was available. The project applied for UNFCCC/CDM financing. The equity ratio of the project was 70/30, according to the CDM PDD. The project was insured by BIC Insurance, announced January 2010. Total cost was estimated at VND 1.497 trillion ($71.8 million) for Ba Thuoc 2, and VND 2.4 trillion for both projects together ($115 million). Financial Close date was unknown, September 2009 was assumed (start construction). By dec 2011 the project had met the criteria for at least 25% of the construction to be complete.
