"This project involves constructing the Babilônia Centro Wind Complex in the Morro do Chapéu and Várzea Nova municipalities, Bahia, Brazil. The planned capacity of this wind complex is 553.5 MW, expected to generate enough energy to supply approximately 1.37 million homes starting in October 2025. The sponsors for this initiative are Casa dos Ventos and ArcelorMittal, with the special purpose vehicle being Ventos de Santos Antônio Comercializadora de Energia SA. Casa dos Ventos holds a minority share of 45%, while the steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal holds 55% of the joint venture. The 553 MW wind project will provide energy to 1.4 million households in Bahia State and meet 40% of ArcelorMittal's electricity consumption in Brazil. The total project cost is $807 million (R$3.95 billion). The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) will provide R$3.16 billion ($643 million) in financing, covering 80% of the total investment needed for the project. The remaining $162 million (R$790 million) will be financed with equity. This loan is the largest ever provided by the development bank for a renewable project.
