Description
Description | The BIRDS project (Empowering Youth Generations through Badminton Interactive Recreation and Digital Systems) is a Sport Programme initiative aimed at combating sedentary lifestyles among children aged 5-12. BIRDS combines the Self-Determination Theory with gamification, and digital technologies to promote physical activity and improve motor skills. The primary goal is to foster healthy habits through engaging educational tools. The project therefore develops a Motor Skills Toolkit and BIRDS App to support coaches and physical education teachers deliver fun exercises for the development of the Fundamental Movement Skills. The app offers children gamified challenges, personalized feedback, and rewards, making physical activity fun and motivating. A comprehensive Training Needs Analysis (TNA) will identify stakeholder requirements and best practices. The findings will guide the development of the toolkit and app, ensuring they align with children's physical and cognitive development. The project will train 15 badminton coaches, who will mentor 30 teachers, ultimately reaching 300 children through school and club-based programs. BIRDS aligns with Erasmus+ priorities by promoting healthy lifestyles, digital transformation, and social inclusion. The app makes sports education accessible to all children, including those from diverse backgrounds. The project’s transnational approach fosters knowledge exchange across Europe, enhancing its adaptability and impact. By providing free educational resources and training ambassador coaches, BIRDS ensures long-term sustainability. The project empowers communities to create healthier, more active generations through innovative methods. In conclusion, BIRDS integrates pedagogical insights through technology and gamification into sports education, supporting the EU’s mission to promote active lifestyles among young people. Its scalable approach and European cooperation promise lasting benefits for children and communities. |
