Description
Description | In February 2007, Terminal de Servicios Portuarios Patagonia Norte SA signed a 20 year concession contract with Consorcio de Gestión del Puerto de Bahía Blanca (CGPBB), the port authority of Bahia Blanca, to operate a container terminal at the dock Ingeniero White. The terminal was completed in 2006 by CGPBB. It was the only container terminal at Bahia Blanca. Terminal de Servicios Portuarios Patagonia Norte SA also operated the port of San Antonio Este, in Rio Negro state. Although both terminals were on similar shipping routes, only the Bahia Blanca terminal was able to service large container vessels due to its deep water. In October 2006, the contract was awarded through a public tender in which Terminal de Servicios Portuarios Patagonia Norte SA submitted the only bid. Three other firms: Terminal Bioceanica, Transporte y Logistica Don Pedro SRL, and International Trade Logistics bought the bidding rules but they did not actually make offers. Total investment for the 20 year concession was estimated at US $9.5 million. In October 2007, The Inter-American Investment Corporation loaned US $4 million to Terminal de Servicios Portuarios Patagonia Norte SA to make the port operational. It was expected to become partially operational by the end of November 2007 and fully operational by the first quarter of 2008. Operations commenced in April 2008. Need capacity information |
