In April 2011, the Mexican company Fuerza de Apoyo Constructiva de Occidente S.A. de C.V. was awarded the 20-year contract to build and operate the wastewater treatment plant named PTAR Bahia de Banderas (Bahia de Banderas, state of Nayarit). The treatment plant was set to have a capacity of 600 liters/second (51.8 m3/day), benefiting 77,000 people. The sponsor had established the special purpose company Equipamiento y Servicio de Agua de Bahía de Banderas, S.A.P.I. de C.V. to lead the project. Five bidders presented offers in the award process led by the state government of Nayarit: Aqualia Infraestructuras de Mexico, Ecossistemas del Agua, Fuerza de Apoyo Constructiva de Occidente, FYPASA Construccion and Ticsa. Information on the bidding criteria was not available. The investment was estimated at US$ 18.6 million (Pesos 245.4 million), of which 35.5% was funded by the Federal government. Construction works commenced in early 2013 and were concluded by February 2015.
