Economic/Social Impact of the Project NMDC Limited a Navaratna PSU under the ministry of steel is the largest producer of the country and it is playing a stellar role in the economic development of the country in fulfilling the demand of iron ore of domestic steel producer. NMDC is working at Bailadila complex since 1968 in Chhattisgarh State in a scientific way of exploration of iron ore to meet the domestic demand of steel industries. NMDC proposed to develop Bailadila Dep-13 in Chhattisgarh where 324.693 million tones of mineral reserves are proved. Bailadila Dep-13 is going to develop under joint venture company with CMDC which is Chhattisgarh State undertaking, for production capacity of 10 million tones per annum. Original date of completion was 13/01/2014. Implementation timelines will be decided after transfer of Forest clearance from NMDC to NMDC-CMDC Limited [JV company between NMDC and Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation Limited] Ministry of mines has communicated to NMDC on 13.2.2007, the precise area of 413.745 ha for iron ore mining at Bailadila Dep-13 for 20 years period. As the area falls in Bailadila reserve forest, the forest clearance proposal has been forwarded to Govt. of Chhattisgarh to Ministry for seeking diversion of 413.745 ha forest land. The above proposal was considered by Forest Advisory Committee in its meeting held on 26.8.2011 and minutes of the meeting revealed that the committee has not favorably considered the above proposal by not taking the note of the requirement of iron ore for the domestic steel units including those located in the state of Chhattisgarh. NMDC Ltd., has been consistently involved in the social and economic transformation and uplifting of the quality of life of the people of Bailadila region in Chhattisgarh and also done tremendous works in CSR in the field of education, health, skill development, construction of roads building in Bailadila region. we would like to emphasize that the opening up new project under joint venture company i.e., NMDC - CMDC will definitely provide substantial economic benefits to the state including generation of both direct and indirect employment.
