Baku–Tbilisi–Kars Railway Expansion

under construction

The Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway line is undergoing capacity expansion in Georgia, including full electrification of the main line and reconstruction of the Akhalkalaki border station. The project aims to increase the railway's freight capacity from 1 million tons per year to 5 million tons, with potential future growth up to 15 million tons per year. The railway is currently operating in test mode with increasing freight volumes, and full-scale operation is expected to significantly multiply freight transport.
