The objectives of the Bali Urban Infrastructure Project are to make sustainable improvements in infrastructure services so as to meet basic needs in all important urban centers; and to meet the needs of growing urbanization in South Bali, as a result of tourism and other economic activities. Project component 1 consists of investing in the following subsectors: water supply, urban roads and traffic management, drainage and flood control, solid waste management, sanitation, neighborhood and market improvement programs, terminals and parking areas, incremental operations and maintenance for new and existing infrastructure, and detailed engineering design and construction supervision. Component 2 facilitates private sector participation in urban infrastructure services, particularly in water supply and solid waste, by offering technical assistance. Component 3, cultural heritage conservation, consists of five elements: (1) improving the Besakih complex neighborhood; (2) pilot conservation activities; (3) establishing a historic place inventory; (4) strengthening conservation capacities; and (5) producing signs in Indonesian and in other languages at heritage sites. Component 4 consists of technical assistance and training.
