Banco BHD Energy Efficiency

The proposed project entails financing to Banco BHD (“BHD”), a longstanding client and partner of the IFC, used to finance energy efficiency projects in the industrial and tourism sectors in the Dominican Republic, where electricity costs are among the highest in the region. An Advisory Services program will complement the investment, by increasing the internal capacity of BHD to set up an energy efficiency unit and establishing internal capacity to evaluate and process energy efficiency loans. The project is of particular importance for the Dominican Republic, where electricity tariffs are among the highest in Latin America, and saving energy is essential in keeping a competitive private sector.
