Description
Description | The Banff Pedestrian/Cyclist Bridge to Enhance Transit Connectivity Project (the Project) will construct a new pedestrian/cyclist bridge over the Bow River to better link residents and visitors to the public transit system and to further encourage sustainable modes of transportation throughout Banff, the Bow Valley, and Banff National Park. The bridge will enhance pedestrian and cyclist connectivity between downtown and principal visitor attractions and residences on the south side of the Bow River. This will encourage residents to walk or cycle to the nearest transit stop and other key infrastructure links. This Project is a collaboration between the Bow Valley Regional Transit Services Commission and the Town of Banff, and will improve access to public transit and promote active transportation, which are strategic priorities and long term goals for the town council. This Project has the potential to dramatically reduce vehicle traffic across the vehicle bridge in favor of walking/cycling. This bridge would also provide an additional crossing method for emergency service vehicles. The Project will result in improved capacity and/or quality of pathways and/or active transportation infrastructure. |
