Description
Description | India has presented a strategic plan to create a multi-layered defense system that includes the Barak 8 surface-to-air missile system. Barak 8, also known as LR-SAM or MR-SAM, is designed to defend against various airborne threats including aircraft, helicopters, anti-ship missiles, UAVs, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and combat jets. The system was jointly developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and India and is expected to be operational and integral to India's defense by 2035. India emphasizes local production under the Make in India initiative and is working on increasing independence with locally produced interceptors to integrate with Barak 8 and other systems. |
