Description

Description

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence Barcelona Center for European Studies (BACES) aims to meaningfully enhance EU studies through education, research, and dissemination activities related to EU subjects at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). It seeks to expand knowledge through research and education while consolidating a network of academics and civil society actors working together to advance dialogue about the EU. The objectives of BACES include consolidating and conducting innovative research, fostering interdisciplinary teaching and dissemination activities on EU affairs, introducing new EU formal courses, strengthening academic-societal dialogue, and building a robust interdisciplinary research network. BACES aligns with Erasmus+ priorities by promoting inclusion, diversity and digitalisation, integrating IT learning and dissemination tools and hybrid events to broaden participation. The Project also supports other strategic goals of the call by incorporating democratic engagement, green transition and sustainability goals, and EU security challenges. The project’s activities are structured according to teaching, research, and dissemination. New formal courses within the new EU Studies degree, which will be introduced in the 2026-2027 academic course, as along with new informal learning activities. The new research activities will contribute to a broad range of EU area studies, while a range of dissemination activities - such as EU Seminars, Interdisciplinary Debates, and more - will engage a wider audience, amplifying the impact of current EU policy priorities. Expected outcomes of BACES include the successful launch of the new EU Studies degree at UPF, the production of high-quality research in leading journals and publishers, support for students and junior researchers on EU subjects and the strengthening of an academic and civil society network with a significant impact at local, national and European levels
