Description

Description

The project involves the development of a waste-to-energy plant in Barka, Oman. The estimated daily capacity of the plant is 4,500 tons of municipal waste, which is expected to reduce the carbon footprint of landfills by 1.3 mil tons per year.Utilizing grate incineration technology, the facility will process up to 3,000 tons of municipal solid waste per day, generating approximately 95–100 MW of electricity, equivalent to around 760 GWh annually. Scheduled for commercial operation in Q2 2031, it will be delivered under an Independent Power Project (IPP) model by Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP) in partnership with Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah). The plant aims to cut landfill use, avoid roughly 302,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year, and provide a stable renewable power source that supports Oman’s broader clean energy and net-zero targets.
