Description

In September 2014, Barra do Rio Terminal Portuario S.A. was granted a 25-year authorization to build, own and operate a multipurpose terminal at Itajai Port, state of Santa Catarina with 62,622 meters square in area. The authorization was established with a renewal mechanism for additional 25-year periods for as long as the terminal remained operational. The total investment on the facility was estimated at US$ 29.2 million (BRL 97.3 million). This investment was set to be undertaken into two phases: the first phase, which envisaged the construction of a 220 meters docking area and 8,000 meters square storage facility, was concluded in January 2015; the second phase included the construction of a second docking area and additional storage area (this construction works were set to begin in January 2016). In July 2015, the state-owned bank BNDES approved a US$ 5.3 million (BRL 17.7 million) loan to finance the construction of the new terminal.
