"The Barro Alto Solar Complex project is being developed in the central region of Goiás state, Brazil. Spanning an 800-hectare area, the park will feature 731,000 solar panels with a planned generation capacity of 452 MWp. The initiative is sponsored by Newave Energia, a joint venture between Gerdau SA, a local steel producer, and Newave Capital, an investment manager specializing in Brazil's domestic electric sector. The Barro Alto Solar Complex will generate enough electricity to meet the needs of approximately 365,000 residents. Once operational, it will supply 66% of the renewable energy required for Gerdau’s steel production facilities in Brazil, while the remaining 34% will be sold in the country's free market. The project, with a total cost of $239 million (R$1.3 billion), is financed through equity contributions from the sponsors and a loan from Banco do Brasil’s SUDECO funding.
