Description
Description | The Basalt Downtown Streetscape & River Park project revitalized the economically struggling downtown of Basalt, Colorado, a historic mining town. The project includes a $2 million riverfront park designed as a circular river eddy with spaces for art, play, and respite, and a nearly $10 million revitalization of the historic main street, Midland Avenue, upgrading failing utilities and infrastructure. The streetscape design is based on the Dutch "woonerf" concept, enhancing pedestrian space, parking, and public gathering areas, while preserving the town's historic character. The project overcame community opposition and construction challenges to create accessible gathering spaces and boost economic revitalization. |
