The Basic Education Guinea II project supports the Guinean Ministry of National Education and Literacy (Ministère de lEducation Nationale et de lAlphabétisation, MENA) in implementing the national education sector program (Programme Sectoriel de lEducation, PSE2) 2015-17 and subsequent sector programs. The aim of the project is to improve access to primary school education in selected project regions. The target group of the project are children of primary school age, especially in disadvantaged rural areas. A special focus is on girls. Parents and teachers, as well as municipalities and local construction companies, also benefit directly and indirectly from the planned measures. The FC project is being implemented in the Faranah and Mamou regions. The project focuses on the construction and equipment of primary schools. Access to water and latrines is provided for each school building. In some school communities, teacher apartments are also being built. The procurement of teaching materials is also being financed. The training of primary school teachers is an important component of the project. Awareness-raising and mobilization measures aim to ensure that families and community members develop a greater appreciation for primary school education, especially for girls, get involved in parents' associations and actively participate in the maintenance of school buildings. The project is a follow-up phase of the Basic Education Guinea program (BMZ No. 2002 67 005), which expired in June 2018 and was implemented by the NGO Plan International in cooperation with MENA and the PSE coordination unit. A financing volume of EUR 10 million is available. The Guinean contribution is around EUR 500,000.
