Description
Description | The aim of the FC measure is to contribute to improving the health situation of women and children by countering or preventing malnutrition and malnutrition. This emergency aid measure is intended to reduce the worst effects of the ongoing economic crisis and cushion the difficult political transformation process. The FC measure is being implemented directly by the World Food Programme (WFP), which has already implemented the preliminary phases of the programme. In February 2014, the WFP presented a new two-year programme (July 2014 - June 2016) for Yemen (Protracted Relief and Recovery Operations - Yemen PRRO- 200636) with total financing requirements of just over USD 491 million to support up to 6 million Yemenis in need, particularly women and children. All WFP programmes implemented in Yemen in the past, including the school programme for girls, are incorporated into this new overall programme. Within the framework of the PRRO, the funds pledged under this programme proposal are to be used for the following programme components: (1) supplementary food for infants and young children (6-23 months), (2) food aid for malnourished children (6-59 months) and pregnant and breastfeeding women; (3) temporary food aid for particularly needy households through food distribution and cash vouchers, (4) take-home rations for girls who regularly attend school and school meals, and (5) support for four initiatives to build capacity in local institutions. The German contribution of EUR 24 million is intended to support the above-mentioned programme components in 2014 and 2015. |
