The project consists of preparing studies to structure partnerships in water and sewage services in all municipalities in the State of Pernambuco, aiming to achieve universal sanitation, as established in the legal sanitation framework. The State of Pernambuco is made up of 185 municipalities and, according to SNIS data, 172 of these and the Fernando de Noronha Archipelago are served by Companhia Pernambucana de Saneamento – COMPESA and the others by municipal authorities or direct municipal public administration. Water and sewage service indicators in the State of Pernambuco are higher than the average for the Northeast region, but still lower than the average for Brazil. Currently, water and sewage service rates in Pernambuco are 83.6% and 30.8%, respectively, while these indicators for Brazil are 84.2% and 55.8%.
