Description
Description | The FC project envisages measures to reduce the vulnerability of the rural population in the state of Ceará to increasing water shortages and drought, and to improve their living and health conditions. Specifically, it involves investments to improve the population's access to drinking water and sanitation, to make efficient use of the scarce resource water by reducing water loss in distribution networks and incentives to save water at household level, to protect scarce water resources through adequate wastewater collection and treatment, and to strengthen locally adapted operator structures to ensure the sustainable operation and maintenance of the systems. The borrower is the state of Ceará. The program sponsor is the State Ministry of Cities in cooperation with CAGECE. The operators of the individual water and sanitation systems are the special purpose associations SISAR (Sistema Integrado de Saneamento Rural) in cooperation with local user groups. The total cost of the project is estimated at around EUR 62.5 million. These are to be financed up to EUR 50 million or the USD equivalent from a FC subsidy loan and up to EUR 12.5 million from the federal state's own funds. |
