Project
In Progress

The City of Bathurst has established a plan to reduce sewer overflows throughout the city. The first action item of this plan is the removal of combined sewers and replacement with separate storm sewers. Description

Description

The City of Bathurst has established a plan to reduce sewer overflows throughout the city. The first action item of this plan is the removal of combined sewers and replacement with separate storm sewers. Combined sewers add storm water to the sanitary sewer system, reducing remaining treatment capacity which can cause sanitary sewer overflows at lift stations and at the wastewater treatment plant. Even when the sanitary sewer system capacity is not overwhelmed by the additional water, treatment costs rise due to the volume of water that is treated. The project scope involves the removal of combined sewers (storm sewers that outlet into sanitary sewers) at 11 locations, and the installation of new separate storm sewers.
