Description | The Localisation Support Fund (LSF) conducted a feasibility study for establishing a battery cell manufacturing gigafactory with an annual capacity between 5 and 10 GWh in South Africa. The project aims to meet the rapidly expanding regional demand for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), support local manufacturing capabilities, and contribute to South Africa's energy and industrial policy frameworks. The Atlantis SEZ in the Western Cape was identified as the top location for the gigafactory. The project is expected to create over 560 direct jobs at the 5 GWh scale and support the government's green economy job creation targets. |
