Deployment of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at renewable energy pooling stations in India to alleviate transmission constraints and reduce renewable energy curtailment. The project aims to install roughly 3-4 GW of two-hour duration BESS to absorb curtailed renewable energy, improve grid congestion management, and defer new transmission infrastructure investments. Regulatory reforms are proposed to enable BESS as a transmission asset with capacity payments socialized across states, facilitating commercial viability and operational flexibility.
