Description | Exxon Mobil has paused plans to build one of the world's largest blue-hydrogen plants at its Baytown, Texas complex due to weak customer demand and limited willingness to sign long-term offtake contracts at a premium price. The project was designed to produce around 1 billion cubic feet per day of hydrogen from natural gas with carbon capture and storage. Exxon and partners have already invested around $500 million, with total costs expected to reach the multi-billion-dollar range. The project could be restarted when economics and customer demand improve. |
