The Brazilian company Brasil Biofuels S.A. was granted the authorization to build and operate four biodiesel fueld power plants located in the state of Acre (9.4 MW in total capacity). The special purpose company BBF Rondonia Geracao de Energia LTDA was created to manage the power plants: UTE Santa Rosa de Purus (1.6 MW) UTE Marechal Thaumaturgo (3.2 MW) UTE Porto Walter (3 MW) UTE Jordao (1.6 MW) The government periodically runs public bidding for the sale of energy to the country´s distribution companies in the Northern region of the country. Brasil Bio Fuels won the public bidding that took place in May 2015 by offering an average tariff of US$ 629.8/MWh (BRL 2101/MWh). Two other bidders took part in the auction: Tecnogera and CEA. In August 2015, the regulatory agency Aneel granted a 30-year license to BBF Rondonia Geracao de Energia LTDA. The construction works commenced in July 2016, and operations began in August 2016. The investment in this project was estimated at U$S 8.7 million (R$ 28.9 millions).
