The Brazilian company Brasil Bio Fuels was granted the authorization to build and operate ten biodiesel fueled power plants located in the state of Rondônia (5.27 MW in total capacity). The special purpose company BBF Rondonia Geracao de Energia Ltda was established to manage the following power plants: UTE Calama (1.4 MW) UTE Conceicao da Galera (0.1 MW) UTE Demarcacao (0.2 MW) UTE Maici (0.07 MW) UTE Nazare (0.6 MW) UTE Santa Catarina (0.2 MW) UTE Sao Carlos (1.4 MW) UTE Pedras Negras (0.2 MW) UTE Rolim de Moura do Guapore (0.6 MW) UTE Surpresa (0.6 MW) The 30-year authorization contract was granted by the regulatory agency ANEEL in August 2015. The construction works commenced in July 2016 and operations began in August 2016. The investment in this project is estimated at U$S 4.9 million (R$ 17.1 million). The government periodically runs public bidding for the sale of energy to the country´s distribution companies in the Northern region of the country. The sponsor won the public bidding that took place in June 2015 by offering an average tariff of US$ 435.3/MWh (BRL 1452/MWh), 8.88% below the ceiling established by Aneel.
