The BC Hydro Customer Connection Project: Barkerville Gold Mines Electrification (the project) is building a new underground gold mine and processing plant in Wells, British Columbia with an expected operations date of 2024. The customer is seeking to fully electrify all underground mine equipment, making this one of the first truly underground electric mines in Canada. To connect to BC Hydro’s electricity grid, a line position will be added to BC Hydro’s Barlow substation outside of the City of Quesnel in the central interior of B.C. This includes: • Conceptual design, detailed engineering and project planning; • Installation of one 66 kilovolt line position at Barlow substation, with associated protection and control equipment, to connect the customer’s transmission line; • Addition of one circuit breaker and associated disconnect switches; • Removal of temporary bus structure; • Installation of revenue metering equipment at the customer’s substation; and, • Protection review, upgrades, and changes at the Barlow substation.
