Description | BC Hydro’s customer, Providence Health Care, is building the new St. Paul’s Hospital and Health Campus in Vancouver, British Columbia. Construction on the hospital commenced in spring 2021; it’s anticipated the new hospital will open to patients in 2027. The new St Paul’s Hospital and Health Campus will include 548 acute care beds and primary care services along with other specialty healthcare services. The new St. Paul’s Hospital and Health Campus is located in a neighbourhood False Creek Flats that has a robust City of Vancouver plan for future development and transformation, including improved transportation access and vehicle traffic by eliminating the Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts. The City of Vancouver expects the number of jobs in the area will grow from 8,000 to 30,000 over the next 30 years. The BC Hydro Customer Connection Project: St. Paul’s Hospital and Health Campus Electrification (the project) includes the design and construction of the necessary electrical infrastructure to enable electrification of nearly 80% of the hospital facility. This project will allow BC Hydro to supply St. Paul’s Hospital with 8.8 megawatts (MW) of clean and renewable electricity. In addition, the two circuits that will deliver electricity from BC Hydro’s Murrin substation to the hospital will have additional capacity to feed other residential and commercial customers in an area that is undergoing significant growth and transformation. The purpose of this project is to deliver the necessary electrical infrastructure to enable electrification of the new St. Paul’s Hospital and Health Campus. Specifically, the project scope includes the extension of two 12 kilovolt circuits from BC Hydro’s Murrin substation to serve the new hospital. At a high level, this includes: Construction of approx. 840 m of underground duct bank; Installation of three Vista switchgear; Installation of approx. 2,000 m of underground electric feeder cable and, All related works |
