Description | BC Place Stadium in Vancouver underwent a sweeping transformation completed in 2011, replacing the original air-supported roof with a cable-supported retractable roof, installing a new centre-hung video board, seismic upgrades, new seating reducing capacity from 60,000 to about 54,500, and major improvements to entrances, concourses, concessions, washrooms, and suites. Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, additional permanent upgrades included elevators, renovated team changerooms, improved washrooms, upgraded media facilities, expanded fan zones, VIP spaces, hospitality areas, and a like-for-like replacement of the aging centre-hung video board. The stadium hosted seven matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup and continues to serve as a major multi-purpose venue in downtown Vancouver. |
