The history, cultural heritage and landscapes of an area are important but perhaps untapped resources to base economic development on. By making the right use of physical traces and remains, as well as stories and stories of places, these can evolve into reasons for people to visit the sites and spend money with the area’s traders with economic development as a result. Sami cultural history is unknown to the majority of people. It therefore has great opportunities to become a new and exciting reason to visit a place, area or region. The Gaaltije and Saemien Sijte foundations have previously, individually but also together, carried out a number of efforts to invent and document knowledge of the Sami cultural heritage, such as archives, cultural environments and stories. The material is currently collected in (obsolete) electronic documents, published publications and databases. The previously developed material would be a good basis for basing the development of Sami cultural visitor directions. The foundations therefore want to use available knowledge and information in a joint project to develop a modern application with the aim of attracting more and new visitors and informing them about Sami cultural environments and places.
