Description

In April of 2004, local private company, Bali Energy Limited, in collaboration with the state oil company, PT Pertamina, took over the management of a geothermal power plant project located in Bedugul, Bali, which was suspended by the Indonesian government in 1997 following the regional financial crisis. The project was expected to produce 10-MW of energy by April 2006, while subsequent phases of the project were scheduled to produce an additional 55 MW by June 2008; 55 MW more by June 2009; and another 55 MW by June of 2010. Once the plant came into operation, the power was to be sold to the state-owned electric company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). US$46.7 million had already been invested in the project before it was suspended, covering the cost of geophysical surveys, test drilling, and infrastructure creation. The 30 year production lease was to begin following the actual commencement of commercial operations, with a 4% profit share payable to the government and a 34% share for Pertamina. The balance of any profits was to go to Bali Energy Limited. None None
