Description

The company that operates the International Airport in Beijing sold 35% of its shares in March 2000 for a total of US$386 million. ADPM, a subsidiary of Aeroports de Paris, and GTM (Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux) acquired 9.975% of the shares, several international investors acquired 21.525% of the shares and local investors acquired a 3.5% stake. A total of 1.35 billion H-shares were offered in the Hong Kong stock exchange. The airport is the largest in China. A new passenger terminal started operations in November 1999 while the old one was undergoing renovation works. In 1999, the airport had 17 million passengers and 360,000 tons worth of freight. Currently, the airport earns 80% of its revenues from aeronautical charges and 20% from non-aeronautical income. ADPM has also signed a 5-year consultancy agreement for an annual fee of US$ 1.8 million. The third runway of BCIA opened on October 29, 2007 to relieve congestion on the other two runways.
