In December 1992, New World Guangdong Highway Investments Co. Ltd (in which New World Infrastructure - NWI - has a 100% equity share) took a 25% stake in a cooperative joint venture with a number of SOE partners. The joint-venture company, Bejing-Zhuhai Expressway Guangzhou-Zhuhai Section Co. Ltd., developed and operated a 62.4 dual 3-lane expressway linking Guangzhou and Zhuhai. The other two major sponsor companies were both state-owned companies. The Guangdong Provincial Highway Construction Co. Ltd. ("GPHC") had 55% stake in the project company, while the Guangdong Provincial Expressway Development Co. Ltd. (GPED) had 20% stake in the project. Phase I has two sections: the 8.6km section I, from Panyu Tangkeng to Tingqiao, opened in May 1997 and section II, from Panyu Tangwei to Zhongshan Nanlang and from Zhongshan Nanlang to Zhuhai Jinding(53.8km), opened in December 1999. NWI invested US$ 13.98 in equity, and US$ 80.39 as a shareholders loan in phase I. Total project costs for phase I were US$ 471.82 million. None None
