Description

Description

Tata Power Company Limited (TPCL) developed an 81.3 MW diesel power plant in Belgaum district, Karnataka State, on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis. The power generated from this plant was being supplied to Karnataka Power Transmission Ltd. (KPTCL), a state-owned transmission utility responsible for bulk purchase and sale of electricity to distribution companies in Karnataka, under a 12 year power purchase agreement (PPA). Under the PPA, KPTL guaranteed the purchase of up to 75% of plant load factor. TPCL was part of India’s Tata Group. TPCL was chosen to develop the project in a bidding process conducted by the Government of Karnataka (GoK) in 1995. The project was a result of GoK’s policy to pursue private investment in power generation. The total cost of the project was estimated at US$ 57 million. TPCL commissioned the power plant on 31 March 2001. None None
