Belgium-Netherlands Cross-Border Hydrogen Pipeline

Belgian and Dutch gas operators Fluxys and Gasunie have entered a joint development agreement to construct a bidirectional cross-border hydrogen pipeline. The project aims to integrate the national hydrogen networks of Belgium and the Netherlands by approximately 2030, establishing an open-access transmission network in Northwestern Europe to strengthen regional energy independence and accelerate industrial decarbonization. The project will prioritize repurposing existing natural gas infrastructure for hydrogen transport where feasible, with a connection point centered on Zandvliet, Belgium, linking major industrial hubs including Antwerp, Ghent, and Rotterdam.
