Belgium is negotiating a potential state takeover of all nuclear reactors operated by French company Engie and its subsidiary Electrabel, including seven reactors at Doel and Tihange nuclear power plants. The takeover would include reactors, staff, subsidiaries, and all associated assets and liabilities, including decommissioning obligations. The initiative aims to secure safe, affordable, and sustainable energy with less dependence on fossil fuel imports. Negotiations are ongoing with a letter of intent and a target to reach a broader deal by October 1, 2026, following due diligence.
