The development objectives of the Belize - Reliant and Resilient Energy System Project is to strengthen the reliability and resilience of the national electricity system and enable greater renewable energy integration. The project will consist of the following components: Component 1 - Strengthening Energy Reliability and Resilience US$ 54.3m (IBRD US$ 46.1m | Canada US$ 8.2m). This component focuses on two critical aspects (hardware and software investments) that are designed to strengthen energy reliability and resilience in Belize within the existing institutional and sectoral arrangement. Component 2 – Energy Sector Institutional Strengthening, Capacity Building and Project Management US$4.1m (IBRD US$ 3.9m | Canada US$ 0.2m). This component will finance technical assistance and capacity building for main energy sector stakeholders (MPUELE, PUC and BEL) to move towards implementation to achieve the objectives of the NEP 2023, in addition to increasing female representation in the energy sector.
