Description

"This project involves the construction of Line 2 of the Belo Horizonte Metro, Belo Horizonte Metropolitan area, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Line 2, spanning 10.5 km and featuring seven new stations, will link Nova Suíça Station to Barreiro, passing through key areas like Nova Gameleira, Nova Cintra, Vista Alegre, and Ferrugem. The first station to be constructed, Amazonas Station, will mark a significant milestone in enhancing the region's transportation infrastructure. The sponsor for this initiative is the Brazilian Metrô BH. The Line 2 of the Belo Horizonte Metro is expected to receive more than 56 thousand passengers on daily basis. The Line 2 is expected to be operational in 2028. In March 2023, a concession contract was signed, granting Metrô BH, a subsidiary of the Comporte Group, responsibility for managing the metro system in the Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Region. The company will oversee the modernization and expansion of Line 1, the implementation of Line 2, and the operation of the entire system for the next 30 years. The total project cost is $666m (R$3.7bn) of which the Brazilian government provided direct support to the project with $226.4m (R$1.2bn). The construction start date was in September 16th, 2024.
