Benin - Education Project III

The Education Project III is designed in response to the addressing the weaknesses in the old colonial educational system of Benin, which was been reformed in the Ecole Nouvelle (New School) system that began in 1993. The weakness to be addressed included; inadequate infrastructure at primary level hampering the enrolment of children; at secondary, vocational and agricultural training levels, shortage of infrastructure; teaching aids, coupled with low teaching staff qualification levels, inadequate supervisory staff resulting in limited enrolment capacity, high repeat and drop-out rates. The project aims to contribute to the development of human resources capable of participating effectively in the country's development. It comprises five (5) components, namely: i) Improvement of the quality of Primary Education; ii) improvement of the qualitv of Science Education at the General Secondary Level; iii) Development of Agricultural, Technical and Industrial Education; iv) Promotion of Women’s Education; and v) Project Implementation Unit.
