Description

Description

This project will contribute to a lasting solution to the problems facing the Sèmè-Podji plant, from the lack of design capacity to the implementation and operation of the faecal sludge management plant. It will also serve as an example to Benin's local authorities of a partnership with the private sector that can be replicated to improve sanitation in their communities. The project will also encourage the generation and sharing of information across the various links in the management of faecal sludge (collection, transport, treatment and recovery), and consequently help to build the capacity of those involved in the sector. The involvement of research and training structures in the implementation of the project is an opportunity to develop their capacities in the field of faecal sludge management. The main expected long-term result is improved living conditions for urban populations, thanks to better management of the sanitation sector. The project has four (04) components: (i) improving the collection and transport of sludge in Grand-Nokoué, (ii) improving the treatment service through a public-private partnership (PPP), (iii) sustainable recovery of the products of sludge treatment and (iv) project management.
