Benton Harbor Virtual Teachers Pilot Project

under implementation

Benton Harbor Area Schools is temporarily using virtual teachers to address a shortage of certified teachers. The district is conducting a year-long pilot project with three companies providing virtual instruction across all grade levels. The virtual teachers are certified and employed until permanent teachers can be hired or grown within the district. The pilot includes a $1.1 million contract with Proximity Learning for some special education teachers, with evaluation planned at the end of the school year.
