For years, the music industry has been experiencing challenges that the ongoing crises have exposed and aggravated. These are the challenges which if not tackled decisively, urgently and holistically, will ultimately threaten the diversity, quality and integrity of the entire European music scene. The current revival is a unique opportunity to lay solid foundations to a fairer, more diverse and green music industry. The aim of the project is to implement the inclusive and sustainable transition of the live music sector by supporting small-scale live music infrastructures and activating the local networks to enable artists to circulate sustainably across borders. By involving all actors, including professionals, grass-roots organizers, their audiences as well as networks and policy makers at all levels of the process we will ensure that the transition is sustainable. The project will start with a preparatory stage made of a research and modeling part that will precisely establish the areas of intervention and low-carbon trajectories. We will then activate grass-roots organizers in order to create eight informal platforms to experiment with the sustainable touring models. Each partner will support its local network to implement around thirty live music events in their region whose ecological, economic and social impact will be measured and included in the research. As a result, the project will increase the circulation and employability of the live music actors. It will create, support and provide expertise to eight informal networks that are the condition for the efficient artistic circulation in Europe. It will equip all music actors with competences and knowledge necessary to consciously join the change. By involving networks and policy makers it will mainstream its results to other sectors of music and influence the policies at all levels. Ultimately, it will allow the inclusive, coherent and bottom-up decarbonization of the live music sector in Europe.
